It is your responsibility to keep this log up-to-date. You fill in any time you start a new book or any time you finish. You must spell the title and author's name correctly and both should be capitalized. Our first entry will be done in class and then you need to add your at-home reading books as needed. When you need more lines, let me know!

Dear Sofia,
This week's wiki assignment is to write a letter back to me about the book you are reading at home. You can write about Roller Girl or your next book (remember to put it on the log!). Tell me if you like the book and why or why not. Please give two examples to support your opinion, (examples of sentence starters for your example: "I liked this book because... I also thought that....".) Your letter should be at least 3 complete sentences long. It should include the 5 parts of a friendly letter, date, greeting, body, closing, and your name. You can write more, but that's up to you! Post your letter right below mine. I'm looking forward to reading your letter!
Best Wishes,
Mrs. McGinnity..

Dear Mrs. McGinnity ,
The book I read at home was Roller Girl. I really liked Roller Girl because it made me think of things in real life such as best friends and enemies. When Astrid's best friend chooses dance camp over roller derby camp Astrid wonders if Nicole will find a new best friend and leave Astrid. Nicole became best friends with Astrid's worst enemy when they both went to dance camp. I also liked that Astrid went to Nicole's house and apologized to Nicole's mom for lying about both going to derby camp because she took the responsibility. Astrid lost a friend, but made a new best friend. If you ever lost a best friend there will be new friend to take their place.
Sincerely,
Sofia Bacci.

Dear Sofia,
Hello! I hope your week is off to a great start. This week's assignment is to use the Venn Diagram we made in class and write me a letter that compares and contrasts the book, The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler, with the movie version. (In your letter you can just call it The Mixed Up Files.) You should give an example of one major way they are the same, and one major way they are different. Your final sentence should explain to me which one you liked better and WHY (that means use ,EVIDENCE). Remember, you must include the 5 parts of a friendly letter: date, greeting, body, closing and your name. You must also post your letter right below this one. Proofread too!
I look forward to reading your letter.
Love,
Mrs. McGinnity

Dear Mrs McGinnity,
My week is off to a great start. How is yours? One way the book The Mixed Up Files and the movie were the same is Claudia and Jamie tried to solve a mystery by looking through Mrs. Frankweiler's files. However, the book and the movie were different because in the book Saxonberg, Mrs. Frankweiler's lawyer, was a very important character. In the movie Saxonberg was not mentioned at all! I really liked the book better because it included more details, like Saxonberg, and more evidence.
Sincerely,
Sofia Bacci

Dear Sofia,
Thank you for your last letter. I know it was challenging but I am happy you came in to see me and ended up writing a fantastic letter with lots of great evidence. I do not see a current at-home reading book so please enter one IMMEDIATELY.
In class we are reading Troublemaker. Can you tell me something you believe is important about Clay's character? What is an important character trait that you think describes him and WHY? What are your predictions for what will happen next to Clay in the story and why do you think that? Your letter should answer the 3 questions above and should include the 5 parts of the friendly letter.
I look forward to reading your letter!
Love, Mrs. McGinnity

Dear Mrs.McGinnity,
I hope your having a great day.One important thing about Clay is that when he has his mind set on something he can do it. When he was trying to become a better student and all the things that tempted him he did not do. A important character trait for Clay would be adventurous because Clay did not care about getting in trouble and did not mind trying to be a better person. In the book Troublemaker I think Clay will get to excited about being better and do something wrong latter on in the book.
Love, Sofia Bacci.

Dear Sofia,
Thank you for your last letter about Troublemaker. Now that you have reached the end of the book I'd like you to think about Clay's character at the beginning of the story and at the end. What important life-lesson do you think Clay learned from his experiences in the story? What did you learn by reading this book? This is sometimes called the author's message or theme. Be sure to answer both questions, even if you think both you and the character learned the same thing. Don't forget all 5 parts of the friendly letter! Post your letter below mine.
Love,
Mrs. McGinnity

Dear Mrs.McGinnity,
In the beginning of the book Troublemaker, Clay is not a good student because he would run down the halls, disturb classes, and get sent to the principal's office a lot. Closer to the middle and the end of the book Clay started becoming a better student and getting good grades, but he still made mistakes. I think a life lesson that Clay learned is that when you try to be a better student sometimes people assume the worst such as the Principal assuming the donkey drawing on his front door was drawn by Clay. I learned that trying to be a better person might cause friends to split apart, but in the end being truthful will help them be closer.

Happy New Year!
For your first wiki letter of the new year, please make sure your book log is up-to-date. You should be reading a good fit chapter book 20 minutes each night.
Next, we are working on monitoring our comprehension as we read to make sure we really understand what we are reading. Think about your at-home reading book. Answer two of the monitoring questions about your book in your friendly letter back to me. Make sure you include all 5 parts of a friendly letter.
Love,
Mrs. McGinnity

Monitoring for Comprehension Questions (pick 2)
1. What is happening in the story?
2. What is happening to the characters?
3. Is the character changing?
4. What do I think will happen next?
5. What is the problem?

Dear Mrs.McGinnity,
I'm currently reading the book Timeless by Armand Baltazar. Right now in the story Timeless Diego the main character is having a weird dream about Chicago {where he lives} is getting distorted.
I think in the story later on in the book Diego's dream will come true.I think the people in his dream he will meet and all the stuff that happened will come true.

Dear Sofia,
We have been working on cause and effect in reading. Cause is the reason something happens and effect is the result, what actually does happen due to the cause. We sometimes call it reason & result.
Think about your at-home reading book. Identify an important example of cause and effect. It should be important because it some how impacts the character or the story's plot. Think of it this way, if it DIDN'T happen, the action or the story would be completely different. EXPLAIN why this cause and effect example is important to the narrative.
I look forward to reading your letter!

Dear Mrs.McGinnity,
In the book Timeless there is one cause and effect that relates to the book the most.Diegos dad is working on a robot in his dream at first. The robots in Diego dream that his dad was working on and all the other robot in Chicago start distroying the world Diegos dad is a engenier so his dad also made a flying skate bord.If the dadf dident make the fiying skate bord he would not know of all the chaos. Diegos dad making the robots is the effect. The robots distroying the world is the cause. This is important because if he didnt have the dream he probaly would'nt of found something important behind it.
