It is your responsibility to keep this log up-to-date. You fill in any time you start a new book or any time you finish. You must spell the title and author's name correctly and both should be capitalized. Our first entry will be done in class and then you need to add your at-home reading books as needed. When you need more lines, let me know!

Dear Michelina,
This week's wiki assignment is to write a letter back to me about the book you are reading at home. You can write about Roller Girl, Another Day As Emily or your next book (remember to put it on the log!). Tell me if you like the book and why or why not. Please give two examples to support your opinion(examples of sentence starters for your example: "I liked this book because... I also thought that....".) Your letter should be at least 3 complete sentences long. It should include the 5 parts of a friendly letter, date, greeting, body, closing, and your name. You can write more, but that's up to you! Post your letter right below mine. I'm looking forward to reading your letter!
Best Wishes,
Mrs. McGinnity..

Dear Mrs.McGinnity,
This week I started a book called Nuts To You, by Lynne Rae Perkins. It's not the best book, but it is good. I liked how the squirrel can talk. Also, I like how it has a lot of details. For example, when it was explaining how great the park was when school ended, or when he was explaining how good the peanut butter was. That was my favorite part. It said, "he was gathering my wits,he sniffed the air and spoke again it's peanut butter isn't it". Over all it was good book.
Sincerely,
Michelina

Dear Michelina,
Hello! I hope your week is off to a great start. This week's assignment is to use the Venn Diagram we made in class and write me a letter that compares and contrasts the book, The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler, with the movie version. (In your letter you can just call it The Mixed Up Files.) You should give an example of one major way they are the same, and one major way they are different. Your final sentence should explain to me which one you liked better and WHY (that means use ,EVIDENCE). Remember, you must include the 5 parts of a friendly letter: date, greeting, body, closing and your name. You must also post your letter right below this one. Proofread too!
I look forward to reading your letter.
Love,
Mrs. McGinnity

Dear Mrs. McGinnity
Hi my week is off to a very good start. How is yours? The Mixed Up Files was an awesome book, one of my favorites. One of the ways it was the same was the mystery of the angel. MichaelAngelo made the sculpture of the angel in both the book and the movie. One of the reasons it was different was that they sent a letter to the museum about the angel, but that didn't happen in the movie only in the book. In my opinion I definitely liked the book way better than the movie because it had more detail. The book described certain moments that I could see in my mind. For example, when the author described the angel it appeared better than actually seeing it in the movie.
Sincerely,
Michelina DeLuca

Dear Michelina,
Thank you for your letter. I agree with you that it is very easy to VISUALIZE parts of the book The Mixed Up Files. I remember being so excited to visit the Metropolitan Museum myself because I felt like I had already been there after reading the book.
In class we are reading Troublemaker. What do you think is important to know about Clay's character? What is an important character trait that you think describes him and WHY? What are your predictions for what will happen next to Clay in the story and why do you think that? Your letter should answer the 3 questions above and should include the 5 parts of the friendly letter.
I look forward to reading your letter!

Dear, Mrs. McGinnity,
I hope you are felling better. I love this book that you have chosen for us, Trouble-Maker. One of Clay's character traits that I thought really fit him was obnoxious. For example, he doesn't really care about school, however he is always getting in trouble or at least trying to.One of the reasons I think Clay is obnoxious Is because he disturbed the music class by hooting Into the room WHOO! which Is very disruptive also he got his best friend yelled at by the music teacher because Clay screamed Into the music room.My prediction on this book would be that Clay Is going to try his hardest In school but he Is going to slip and he will do one thing wrong and then Mitch will give him another lecture or he might hurt him again. This book Is almost one of my favorites this year I am tempted to read more but I wont.I love this book and I am hoping to read more Andrew Clements books.
Sincerely, Michelina

Dear Michelina,
Thank you for your last letter about Troublemaker. Now that you have reached the end of the book I'd like you to think about Clay's character at the beginning of the story and at the end. What important life-lesson do you think Clay learned from his experiences in the story? What did you learn by reading this book? This is sometimes called the author's message or theme. Be sure to answer both questions, even if you think both you and the character learned the same thing. Don't forget all 5 parts of the friendly letter! Post your letter below mine.
Love,
Mrs. McGinnity
p.s. Is your book log up to date?

December 4, 2017
Dear Mrs.McGinnity,
I had just finished editing my book log.I hope your weekend was good. Mine was amazing. My family and I had gone to Elf the musical.I love the book Trouble Maker I am so mad we had finished it.Clay had definitely changed through out the book in the beginning as you know he was a trouble maker, towards the end he became an honest friend and a good kid. He won a prize for the best portrait in a art contest. An important life lesson Clay had learned was to be a good kid because you can go very far in life even if your records where full through out the school days.I had learned that trusting people is important for example,Clay had to trust Mitch and he did and now he is a very good kid.
Love,
Michelina
Merry almost Christmas!

Happy New Year!
For your first wiki letter of the new year, please make sure your book log is up-to-date. You should be reading a good fit chapter book 20 minutes each night.
Next, we are working on monitoring our comprehension as we read to make sure we really understand what we are reading. Think about your at-home reading book. Answer two of the monitoring questions about your book in your friendly letter back to me. Make sure you include all 5 parts of a friendly letter.
Love,
Mrs. McGinnity

Monitoring for Comprehension Questions (pick 2)
1. What is happening in the story?
2. What is happening to the characters?
3. Is the character changing?
4. What do I think will happen next?
5. What is the problem?

January 17,2018
Dear Mrs.McGinnity,
I hope your long weekend was fun. At home I am reading the book Wonder this book is very inspiring. The problem In the book Wonder is that Auggie the main character who is 10 years old was born with a facial difference. He is embarrassed about how he looks, this year he is going to school for the first time he has never been to school because he had so many surgeries, he has been through 27 surgeries since he was born. In the book Wonder my prediction about what will happen next in the story is that Auggie will start to like school at first and then towards the end he will not like it. People will probably make fun of him just by the way that his face looks even though he is just a normal 10 year old. I cant wait to read my 20 minutes of reading tonight this book is great so far.
From,
Michelina

Dear Michelina,
We have been working on cause and effect in reading. Cause is the reason something happens and effect is the result, what actually does happen due to the cause. We sometimes call it reason & result.
Think about your at-home reading book. Identify an important example of cause and effect. It should be important because it some how impacts the character or the story's plot. Think of it this way, if it DIDN'T happen, the action or the story would be completely different. EXPLAIN why this cause and effect example is important to the narrative.
I look forward to reading your letter!
Love, Mrs. McGinnity

Dear Mrs.McGinnity,
The cause in the story Wonder is that Auggie, a 10 year old boy has a facial difference. The effect is that he gets made fun of, can not go to school, and goes through a lot of surgeries. If he did not have a facial difference he would not get made fun of, He could go to school, and not have to go through a lot of surgeries. Another cause is that he now is going to a school and the effect is he has to make new friends.
Looking forward to finishing this book soon!
Love,Michelina
