It is your responsibility to keep this log up-to-date. You fill in any time you start a new book or any time you finish. You must spell the title and author's name correctly and both should be capitalized. Our first entry will be done in class and then you need to add your at-home reading books as needed. When you need more lines, let me know!

Dear Mia,
This week's wiki assignment is to write a letter back to me about the book you are reading at home. You can write about Another Day As Emily . Tell me if you like the book and why or why not. Please give two examples to support your opinion, (examples of sentence starters for your example: "I liked this book because... I also thought that....".) Your letter should be at least 3 complete sentences long. It should include the 5 parts of a friendly letter, date, greeting, body, closing, and your name. You can write more, but that's up to you! Post your letter right below mine. I'm looking forward to reading your letter!
Best Wishes,
Mrs. McGinnity..

Dear Mrs. McGinnity,
The book that I am reading right now is called Another Day As Emily. I really like this book because it has lots of action and details in it. Another reason why I like this book is because it has small snipits of the book which makes it easier to understand. The book is realistic so many people can connect to the story. These are the reasons why I like this book.
Kind Regards.

Dear Mia,
Hello! I hope your week is off to a great start. This week's assignment is to use the Venn Diagram we made in class and write me a letter that compares and contrasts the book, The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler, with the movie version. (In your letter you can just call it The Mixed Up Files.) You should give an example of one major way they are the same, and one major way they are different. Your final sentence should explain to me which one you liked better and WHY (that means use ,EVIDENCE). Remember, you must include the 5 parts of a friendly letter: date, greeting, body, closing and your name. You must also post your letter right below this one. Proofread too!
I look forward to reading your letter.
Love,
Mrs. McGinnity

Dear Mrs. McGinnity,I hope you are having a wonderful week.
I personally liked the book better because it had lot's of action and also lot's of details. For example in the movie they took the bus to get to New York City but in the book they took the train and they had to find the ticket and they had to make a big plan. Another reason why I think the book is better is because in the book they had the characters say more interesting things which made the book more interesting and I like that. But they still had some thing's in common like the mystery was still the angel and Mrs. Basil E . Frankweiler was still one of the main characters in the book and in the movie .They also have one more thing in common because at the end of the story Claudia and Jamie went to Mrs. Basil E . Frankweiler's house in the book and in the movie. But they also have their differences like in the book there was a character named Saxonberg and also they went on a bus in the movie to get to New York and in the book they took the train. Those are just some of the reason's why I think the book better.

Dear Mia,
Thank you for your letter. You gave excellent examples when you compared and contrasted the book and the movie. I was really impressed by your hard work.
In your next letter please tell me something important about the main character in Fish In a Tree. Can you think of a character trait that describes her best? What do you think will happen next to your character?
Your letter should answer the 3 questions above and it should have the 5 parts of a friendly letter.
I look forward to reading it.

Dear Mrs. McGinnity,
I hope you are having a fantastic day.
My main character's name is Ally. What I noticed about Ally is she is very courageous because she overcomes so many challenges and faces her fears. Ally is also determined because she will not give up on herself and fights to achieve her dreams. I think these two character traits in Ally are important to have because they will help you tackle hard obstacles. I predict that Ally will learn to read and have a successful life because she is determined and courageous. I also know that Ally will be successful because we both have dyslexia and I have been determined to grow with my reading by working hard and I know she can do the same.

Dear Mrs. McGinnity,
I hope you are having a fantastic day.
What I like about the character Henry in the book Ribsy is that he is brave for believing that Ribsy will come back someday. What I think will happen to Ribsy and Henry in the story is that Ribsy will finally find his way back to Henry. Once they are together again they will never leave each other's side again.
Kind regards,

Happy New Year!
For your first wiki letter of the new year, please make sure your book log is up-to-date. You should be reading a good fit chapter book 20 minutes each night.
Next, we are working on monitoring our comprehension as we read to make sure we really understand what we are reading. Think about your at-home reading book. Answer two of the monitoring questions about your book in your friendly letter back to me. Make sure you include all 5 parts of a friendly letter.
Love,
Mrs. McGinnity

Monitoring for Comprehension Questions (pick 2)
1. What is happening in the story?
2. What is happening to the characters?
3. Is the character changing?
4. What do I think will happen next?
5. What is the problem?

Dear Mrs. McGinnity,
I hope you are having an awesome day. The book that I am doing for this report is The Truth Game. One of the questions that I picked was what is the problem in the story. Well the problem in the first chapter is that she is starting high school and she wakes up and her hair is a mess and she spills her breakfast all over her favorite shirt that she was going to where. Also she has a lot of trouble making new friends in high school. The other question that I picked was is the character change. In the beginning she is really shy and scared of high school but she changes by the end because she finally seems to be coming out of her shell and acting brave and standing up for herself.

Dear Mia,
We have been working on cause and effect in reading. Cause is the reason something happens and effect is the result, what actually does happen due to the cause. We sometimes call it reason & result.
Think about your at-home reading book. Identify an important example of cause and effect. It should be important because it some how impacts the character or the story's plot. Think of it this way, if it DIDN'T happen, the action or the story would be completely different. EXPLAIN why this cause and effect example is important to the narrative.
I look forward to reading your letter!

dear Mrs. McGinnity
I hope you are having a awesome week.
the book that i am doing for this wiki is called The Truth Game . one important example of cause & effect in the story is when the main characters best friend tells her to get this awesome new game she gets it and something happens she gets bullied a lot and you don't want to go through that. this effects the main character because everybody knows that it does not fell good when you get bullied or teased and also even her best best best friend for life turns on her back even her teachers they even give her bad grades just because they don't like her.

MAKE SURE YOUR BOOK LOG IS UP-TO-DATE
3-5-18
Dear Mia,
As we saw in class, when we read we can learn from and teach our characters. This week here is what you need to do: Introduce me to your main character and tell me two or three important character traits. (one sentence.) Then tell me about a time when your main character interacted with another character in the story (this should only be about one sentence.) Finally you can decide to share with me the advice you would want to give your character OR you can tell me what you learned from your character's behavior. I look forward to understanding what you INFERRED from your character's behavior.
Love,
Mrs. McGinnity

dear Mrs. McGinnity
I hope you are having a great week.
The book that I am doing for this wiki is called the dirt diary. The main character is Rachel she is shy, kind, and quirky. one time when Rachel interacted with another character is when her and her mom were cleaning Rachel's enemy's house and the enemy . walked in on Rachel and started a ruckus. my advice to Rachel would be stand up for your self and don't let any one get you down.
