Welcome Anji!
This will be your personal wiki page. You do not have to do anything yet. If you WANT to, you may add the titles of the TWO MCBA books you read this summer to your book log. Do not add anything else please, but if you read more than two feel free to add them.
Here's what to do:
In the upper right hand corner of this page there is a button that says "Edit" with a pencil next to it. Click on that. Your page will look different now but you can still read all my directions.
Click in the table under title and CORRECTLY type in the title of the book - the box will grow with your letters. Click in the next box under author and CORRECTLY type in the author's last name.
In the boxes under Started and Finished type in the words "Summer". In the last box you decide if the book was E (easy), JR (just right), C (challenging).
Then go to the top of this page and click on "Save". Your work will be posted and I will get an email telling me you were on the site.
If it is not working for you and there isn't an adult around to help NO WORRIES - we will practice this skill in school in the first few weeks. Soon, you'll be a posting PRO.

Dear Mrs.McGinnity,
Jamie is an important character from the Mixed Up Files. Jamie is very clever, thoughtful and cooperative!
Jamie showed he was cooperative when his sister Claudia wanted a P.O. box and it cost a lot of money,
but he still go it. Jamie was very kind throughout the book and I think Claudia was very smart to pick
him to runaway with!
Yours Truly,
Anji

Dear Anji,
Hello! This week's wiki assignment is:
1. To make sure your book log is up-to-date.
2. Write a me letter (with a date, greeting, body, closing and your name) about your guided reading main character. Who is he or she? What do you like or dislike about your character so far? What 3 character traits do you think best describe your character and why? Make sure the body of your letter answers these three questions. Also, make sure the title of your book is capitalized and underlined. Your letter is due by Friday.
See me if you need help! POST YOUR LETTER BELOW THIS ONE.
Love, Mrs. McGinnity

Dear Mrs. McGinnity,
In my guided reading book Pictures Of Hollis Woods, Hollis Woods is the main character. Hollis is a foster child who is very rebellious. Hollis ran away from all of her foster families, looking to find the perfect family to stay with. She gets paired with a woman named Josie to stay with, and Hollis actually thinks that she will stay with her. I don't like when Hollis noticed that Josie was forgetting things and she didn't tell anyone. Even though it could mean that she wouldn't be able to stay with Josie anymore, it might be a better situation if Josie got better and taken care of. Hollis is definitely caring when Beatrice decides to go to the southwest and tells Hollis to take care of Josie and Hollis agrees. Also Hollis is very observant because she noticed that Josie was forgetting a lot of things and right away she knew something was wrong. Lastly Hollis is brave because she ran away from all of her foster families and she spent nights alone with no people watching after her. My book is very interesting because of Hollis Woods, her pictures and stories make me want to read more! I can't wait to read the rest!

Dear Anji,
Thank you so much for your last letter. This week I would like to know a little more about your at-home reading book, The Taming of PZ.Think of your story map when you write to me about this book and tell me the characters and setting and problem as you know it so far.
We will be doing a book talk next term. Would this be a book you would consider?
Remember to write in friendly letter form and post it below this one. Your letter is due Thursday.

Dear Mrs. McGinnity,
The Taming Of PZ my at home reading book, it is sad but PZ 5934 makes you believe anything is possible. In the story there is a dog with no actual name but she is called PZ 5934, PZ is a laboratory dog with no experience of the outside world. The scientists who got PZ make her have a lot of puppies so that they can test there kidney medication on them. In the beginning you learn about how PZ 5934 has puppies but only gets to be with them for a short amount of time, it was heart breaking because it said how PZ got used to the sounds of her screeching puppies. The workers in the lab decide that PZ is too old and that she has produced enough puppies. The problem is that PZ doesn't know how to act in the real world. A nice woman takes PZ out into the real world and PZ meets a ladybug. Also PZ was very suprised that she could actually understand someone. PZ and the ladybug both dream of having actual names, PZ named the ladybug Dottie because of the dots on her back. When PZ asks for a name Dottie says "Only humans give dogs there name." The nice woman drives PZ and the Dottie to a shelter (she doesn't know Dottie is there), when they get there PZ enjoys an actual playtime, she runs around and sees all of the things she didn't see in the lab. When they actually get inside PZ cringes at the sound of all the dogs barking because she is not used to all of the sound. Dottie tells PZ how to act because PZ needs to learn how to be a pet so that she can live with a family. The woman notices Dottie and tries to release her outside but, PZ escapes her area (because the door was open) and runs after the woman at the door PZ does the loudest howl she has ever done! I am not sure about how everything gets resolved because I am only on chapter 10, but i can only imagine all of the crazy things to come! In my opinion The Taming Of PZ will probably not be my first choice for book talk but will be a definite choice! The Taming Of PZ is a great book so far!
Love,
Anji

Dear Anji,
Great letter. Wow! You really told me a lot of details - how would you summarize the problem? Who and What is most important for me to know? Is this a book you would consider for your book talk?

Mrs. McGinnity

Welcome back to your wiki. I hope you're enjoying your new at-home reading book. Please take a moment to consider the perspective of the book (ask your self: Whose story is being told?) and the point of view (1st person - narrator is a character; 3rd person limited - one character's feelings and thoughts are known; 3rd person omniscient - all characters" feelings and thoughts are known; 3rd person limited - none of the characters' inner thoughts and feelings are known.)
Explain in your letter the perspective and point of view of your book. Then consider how your story might be different if the point of view changed. In a sentence explain what would change in the story if you changed the point of view. Your letter should be at least 4 sentences long.
Post your letter below this one.

Dear Mrs.McGinnity,
The Angel Tree is a great book so far, in the book Max, Cami, Joe and Lucy's stories are being told. I think the book is 3rd person omniscient because all of the characters feelings are being expressed in the chapters that I have read. If the book was in 1st person the story would change because the story would be based on one character not all four. It would totally change the books purpose too, the story is about the happiness of the small town of Pine River Because of the Angel Tree. If it was 1st person the purpose would be the joy of the Angel Tree making the main characters "wish" come true. The Angel Tree is great because of the perspective and the point of view! I miss you all there! See you soon.
Love,
Anji

Welcome Back!
I hope you had a great vacation. As you know from our guided reading work, we have been asking questions while we read and if we can answer them as we read we make note of the answers. Remember there are 4 types of questions that deepen our understanding:
1. Right There - the answer is in the text
2. Think and Search - the answer is found by searching the entire text and combining information
3. Author and You - hints are in the text but you must INFER the answer.
4. On My Own - the answer is not in the text, you create and answer based on background knowledge and creative thinking.
For your wiki letter, think about your at-home reading book, what questions do you have? Tell me who your main character is and what is the problem so far. Then write two questions. If you are still reading your book then any type of questions are fine, if you have finished your book then write two "On My Own" questions (think about what might happen now that the story is over) and be creative and answer them too!
Post your letter BELOW this one.

Dear Mrs.McGinnity,
The Angel Tree is a great book so far. The main characters are Cami, Max, Lucy and Joe. The problem is that the main characters want to find and thank the "Angel Tree's" creator but they don't know who it is! One obvious question that I have is: who is the person behind the Angel Tree? Also: How come no one else has figured out who the Angel Tree creator is?

Hello!
As we discussed on Friday, this week you will write to me about Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy. In this charming fantasy, our main character Ophelia overcomes many challenges to save the Marvelous Boy. In your letter you will need to write about TWO things:
1. Which challenge do you think was the most difficult for Ophelia and why? (was it the misery birds? the ghost girls and the snow leopards? her sister Alice's bad attitude? or something else.
2. Look at the story map we made and you got in class. Choose one of the author's messages and explain to me why you believe this was a powerful theme. Use an example from the story that supports your opinion.
Make sure your letter includes the 5 parts of a friendly letter in the correct format.
Love, Mrs. McGInnity

Dear Mrs. McGinnity,
I think Ophelia's greatest challenge was Ms. Kaminski. I think so because the curator was very sneaky and if Ophelia didn't defeat her she would of made the whole world freeze! I also think Ms. Kaminski was a challenge because every time Ophelia would do something she would reverse it and make everything worse, like when Ophelia got the boy out of the room, Ms. Kaminski hid him again making everything harder. The theme I think is most powerful is the "Love is powerful" theme. My reasoning is because The Whittard family was dealing with the loss of there mom, but, in the end they all came together (after a hectic few days) and defeated the snow queen all together.
